A Touch of Wood in the Kitchen

I've got kitchens on the brain this week!

I'm very partial to painted kitchen cabinets, but I've always liked a little wood in there somewhere.  It just gives some warmth and depth....a little flavor, no matter what the style.  An island, a countertop, some open shelving, a section of cabinetry, ceiling beams, floor....please!  Something?

Imagine these fabulous kitchens without the touch of wood.

Love that island above and
all the warmth that wood brings to each fabulous kitchen.

GORGEOUS kitchens!! Wish we installed a wood counter on my black island instead of granite.

I love these kitchens and 100% agree that wood is a very necessary element. It really warms things up and keeps the rooms from being so light and airy that they float.
Love your style!

Hello,

Beautiful pictures of these gorgeous kitchens. Love the wood mixed in. I didn't add wood to our new kitchen but knocked down the wall between the kitchen and dining room to show off the farm table.
Thank you for sharing.
Love your blog!

Completely agree....to me it is grounding...like adding black.

We have a "baking area" with wood counters...and then many well used (and loved) cutting boards.

Love it. We had a kitchen once with an island with a butcher block top on an ink blue base...I loved it.

Great collection. I'm really drawn to Ili Nilsson's kitchen because of the narrow kitchen island. I still have to post on my kitchen reno but I thought we would have a kitchen table - but it's not working out space wise. My grandmother's narrow drop leaf table is a place holder right now. This island is inspiration - thanks!

Could you tell me what the material is for the island counter top in Trip Haenisch's picture?

Thanks!

Hi Mindy,

I don't know, but it looks like it could be honed black granite, Absolute Black maybe, then a white marble for the island, like a carrara or calacatta. That's what I 'm thinking. I think those could work if you're looking to do something similar.
