Could there be anything more naked looking than a niche without something in it?
Many new-ish homes have an abundance of niches, built to make the space look interesting. Looking for somothing to fill the void? Take a cue from these examples.
The citrus tree above fills the space and brings life, color, and dimension.
Eclectic Revisited
The wood tones lining these niches add warmth. Glass shelving suspended within allows smaller decorative items to be used to fill the space and add interest.
Electic Revisited
Overscaled containers with plants are simple and beautiful.

The single sculpture in a niche gives importance to the piece.

I love this horizontal niche, painted in a contrasting color, used for collectibles from the beach.

I live in a boring old apartment - the best I can do is accessorize my window sills! But I love your master bath niche where the "empty" space is the focal point.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think niches can be a real decorating challenging! Love this ideas. M.
ReplyDeleteThe niche that you designed in the bath is amazing, Carla. You really are so talented. Love this images.

niche's are fun but also difficult..it's important not to over do them..I like the idea of having nothing in them but the tiles..it adds interest and depth to a room without getting that over done look or messy look...
ReplyDeletegreat idea Carla..

Decorating a niche can be difficult. I think people tend to place items that are too short in tall niches.

Love these inspirations! My favorite is the second last image, adore the beach objects in the horizontal niche.

The niche can be a hard one to decorate. such a small space and it could make a big impact.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know that I gave you the versatile award for your blog. check it out on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI live in a sweet little old house from the 40's - the one niche we have is the old phone station in the dining room. its about 16" tall by 8" wide. It used to house a sculpture my husband did, but the size didn't quite complement it. We currently have a candle and photo, but I'd love something more spectacular in there, any ideas? Painting it seems like a smart idea... Would love suggestions from anyone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
