Fresh Greens Mixed With Fake

I love fresh greens at Christmas, but the fact is they dry out so quickly inside your home.  At least with a tree, you can keep it in water, but fresh garlands just get downright crispy way before Christmas day.  Combining fresh and fake can get you close to the look and scent of a fresh garland.  Just keep the main structure with it's decor intact and change out the fresh as often as you like.

Before - all fake

After with fresh clippings placed randomly in the garland - it's not so tight or controlled looking either.

One package grocery store greens - you could clip from your own garden or pick up at the neighborhood Christmas tree lot.

Fresh greens brighten up just about everything at Christmas.

They smell so good too!

It's almost here!  Are you ready?

  1. what a good idea to combine fresh greens with fake garland-and as you day, the real ones do dry out so fast so this is a sort of compromise of sorts....pretty mantel too..

  2. Carla-
I am never ready until Christmas eve. i can accomplish much in a day but there is something about Christmas that can't I get done early! Maybe in my subconscious mind I want it to last longer?
Love the idea of fresh and artificial. I use floral vials on the end of each piece of greenery so that it lasts a little longer and stay a little greener, but lets face it, it doesn't last long enough.
The image here is beautiful, Carla.
    Have a nice Christmas week.

  6. The countdown (or should I say race) is on for me! I always mix, and you're right, it gives so much life to the more stiff feel of just fake. Looking good, Carla!! Have a happy week!

  7. Carla,
Thanks for responding about your paint color.
I had my family room and kitchen painted gray owl this summer and I'm not so happy with the color :oI It doesnt look gray in my house, its to pastel( its not working in my house with my stuff. I'm new on the hunt for a new neutral.

  8. I have frequently done the same - I only have one fake garland, but depending where I put it, it sometimes needs some enhancement!!

  10. I love the idea of using a combination of fresh and fake...It gives it the appearance of all fresh and of course very full. And I do love the smell too!

  12. Not ready, but happily anxious all the same!! Why had I never thought of this? Mixing real with fake is brilliant. It was so challenging in the Texan climate to have fresh greens, but I do miss that warmth this time of year.

May the Joy and Peace of Christmas be with you now and throughout the new year Carla.
Wishing all that's magical for you and for your family.

    xx Deb
